This painting was based on a sketch I did of my oldest granddaughter. However, when I sketched it into the painting, I saw a memory. Perhaps it was the memory of the kiss she was giving her baby brother in the photograph I was sketching, but it felt like more poignant, like a memory of a kiss with my late husband.
