The Story of the

Storyteller's Garden

Martha L Garmon

I am a storyteller. Much to the chagrin of my husband, if you ask me a question there is a good chance you will get a story. As an author and voracious reader, I am intrigued and delighted by good storytelling. I love a book that I can’t put down. I love a good description and I love interesting words. I like to say interesting words out loud just to hear them and feel them on my tongue.

This painting is crafted out of one of the books that I read with my book club. I looked through the pages and looked for phrases that I found interesting. Like an author, I took these phrases and watered my storyteller’s garden. Some of the phrases were discarded and left on the ground, but others took root and produced the flower you see.

At first, I was reluctant to cut up a book, but, in the end, I felt that the book continued to entertain me by allowing me to use it to produce this work of art. The book I used was “Tuck Everlasting”. In some small way, I hope I have helped the story to live a little longer by using it in this way.

Prints and notecards are available of all paintings
